Opening Prayer

Jesus, Eucharist is Your presence. Eucharist is Your Memory. Eucharist is Your Body and Blood to be our Food and Drink. We gather at Eucharist as Your Risen Body, to share Your Body, because Eucharist makes us Your one Body. We are what we eat! Thank You for feeding us and making us Your own. You must look askance at the way we divide Your Body — and God’s family. Why do we split, separate and isolate people? Are we hopeless, Lord? That is why we need Your food. Teach us again to use Your Eucharist the way You gave it to us — to bring us together with You and each other and empower us beyond our pettiness. Give us the humility of the centurion to acknowledge Your presence and healing power — as well as our need for healing of our brokenness, arrogance and injustice.
