Opening Prayer

God of our History, like the children of Abraham, we seem to be born of one dream but with divided heritage. We are children of promise. We are children of broken dreams and misguided human initiative. Sometimes, we are children trapped in our natural instincts. Always, we are Your children uplifted by Your grace. Sometimes, we are just confused. We don’t read the signs and understand Your message. Teach me to know Your Son, Jesus in the reality of my world today. He is the ultimate expression of Your love, yet I miss his breath sometimes. Reform my hardened heart. Open my ears, my eyes and my arms! Keep me faithful to the best instincts You have created in me – gentle me to follow your Spirit, not my own misguided needs.
