Opening Prayer

Eternal God of Life, breathe on us again! Bring to life the disconnected dry bones of our experience. Make our hard hearts and dry spirits come to life again and respond wholeheartedly. We dry up and die through disillusionment, disappointment, and despair. We disconnect from the body of Your human family and the Risen Body of Your Son. Connect us in the passion of Your Spirit. Create of us vibrant, living people, who love You and each other with responsive, embracing, and passionate wholeheartedness. Breathe in the tombs we create within and among ourselves. Be our God of Life. Breathe powerfully, Holy Spirit, that we may live fully from the Heart of Christ, and therefore fulfill Your law. Thank You for renewing Your Breath, availability and love for us!

St. Therese, this is the last time you receive Holy Communion.   And yet you did not pout in self-pity and rather knew that your longing for Jesus was even stronger even though your illness did not allow you to receive Communion.  As you then taught us about “everything is grace”, help us to see the disappointments and darknesses of life as moments of grace when you are calling us closer and to my intimate trust of God.
