Opening Prayer

Jesus, was your Mom hurt when you declared that those who hear and follow the Word of God are more your mother and relatives?  Or did she simply understand, with a mother’s wisdom, that you were speaking God’s truth that our actions and attitudes of our heart are more important than our origins and connections?  Help us to follow you and be faithful.  Teach us to swim the stream of divine love flowing from your heart.  Give us the wisdom that radiates from within and transforms our hearts and attitudes.  May we listen to the poor, powerless, and peripheral in the same way we expect you to listen to us today.
