Opening Prayer

Jesus, sometimes we think you are asleep when the tides of our life are so turbulent. We panic because we are afraid that we will be overwhelmed and lost. Teach us to trust you – and love you, even when you are sleeping. It is okay for you to sleep, Lord, because your providence protects us always and does not let us sink in sin, darkness or destruction. Instill in us courage to trust and always believe that you are Lord and Master of the whole universe. Save us always as you saved Lot and his family, but preserve us from the backward glance of his wife, who looked at destruction and became a pillar of salt. May our curiosity and fascination with destructive evil not lead to our destruction.

Bless our country today as we celebrate our independence.  May we seek the independence, freedom and dignity of all Your people.  God, bless America, land that I love!
