Opening Prayer

You are love, O God! You created us in Your image and we are our best selves and most like You when we love. Keep us faithful to Your commandments and make it the touchstone of all orthodoxy. You really do stretch us and empower us to be as compassionate as You are. You are the norm, no matter how much a stretch it is for us! Help us to trust, reverence, forgive, embrace and give others the benefit of the doubt. It is a challenge for us, God of Love, because we have learned to fear, be cautious, cynical and mistrusting of others. We need Your energy and Spirit, to proclaim Your love and presence to the ends of the world and the farthest depths of our human experience. Inspire us not to make either/or choices about loving You and others. Give us Your integrity and simplicity!
