Opening Prayer

Almighty One, You love the plot of the small confronting the strong. David slew the Philistine because of his faith in you. He was not pre-occupied by his smallness, inexperience or youth, but was possessed by Your greatness, power and fidelity. Ground me on the rock of Your faithfulness, and empower me to overcome power which diminishes, limits and disdains others. What is it in our human spirit, Jesus, that looks for evil rather than rejoices in your healing and freedom? Why do people condemn and distance others in the name of religion? Why does religious law often confine instead of free people? Isn’t our Church here to make your healing presence more available to all, especially the small and “little ones” of our world? Touch our shriveled hearts and let them beat with the power of your love.
