Opening Prayer

We really want to absolutely love you, God of all goodness, even as we worship at the altar of success and prosperity. We must confuse you! We confuse ourselves! Please read the good intentions of my heart. Mold us so that the hungers, thirsts and lusts of our lives may not dominate the horizons of our hearts. We are so independent! We want to rely on no one and not be vulnerable to disappointment. Give us the humility of Paul, who was zealous and hard- working, yet gentled and grateful by his dependence on the generosity of the Philippians. Gentle our stubborn independence and tenacious greed, Good and Generous God.
