Opening Prayer

Healing God, sometimes I feel strung out and taut on your weaver’s shuttle. I collapse into Job’s despair as the strands of my life weave into strange and painful patterns. It becomes a challenge to believe that You are in charge, and not to have my faith snap in disbelief. Like Paul, You are stretching me for the sake of the Gospel – help me not to break! Were you surprised Jesus when Simon’s mother-in-law was sick, when she was supposed to provide dinner? Were you surprised when your get-well wish worked and God healed her? Sometimes we are surprised by the miracles God works in our world and experience. Heal our disbelief and help us believe! Jesus, empower us to go to isolated and sacred spaces away, as you did, to listen to you speaking in our experience. Encourage us to keep moving in our journey of faith to the farthest limits of disbelief.
