Opening Prayer

Holy God, You really do want us to be like You. You have created us in Your image and call us to a change of heart until we are like You. You continue to stretch us with your universal outreach to all peoples not just the ones we like or feel comfortable with. Sometimes I get scared by the fact that you hold us responsible for our sins, as you held Ahab responsible. You treat us the way we treat each other. Stretch our scared and petty hearts so that we can love those who are strangers or foreigners to us – those whom we don’t like or are even uncomfortable with. We are useless without you, Lord. We need Your presence to move us – change us – and empower us. In Christ, fill us with Your powerful Breath and transforming Spirit.
