Gospel Reading
Matthew 5: 43-48

Opening Prayer

God of the Universe, You are always stretching the limits. You challenge and empower us to be as generous as You are. We hear Paul and Jesus testing us to see if our generous attitudes and actions reflect Your self-emptying love. Why are we so afraid to give too much? Why do we so quickly create and justify limiting whom we love, forgive and attend to? InSpirit us today so that we are faithful to Your image imprinted at the core of who we are – so that we are as generous, as forgiving, as compassionate and as complete as You are – so that we are Your faithful daughters and sons. You and You alone are the norm, despite our attempts to create other measures which are less challenging.
