Opening Prayer

Do You smile at our shallowness, God of Fullness? We define ourselves by our goods, possessions, successes and accomplishments, yet we still feel empty. Why do we grasp what we cannot have forever? Why does this evil instinct inside us pursue darkness and emptiness as if it was the filling meal of life? Please pour forth within us the Spirit of Jesus to enable us to live beyond the destructive and selfish behaviors which cause violence and division. Help us discern the wealth which truly enriches. May Your Spirit of Wisdom teach us the higher gifts of love, justice, forgiveness and peace which fulfill us because they are You and define Your Reign.
