Opening Prayer

Lord, sometimes our Church seems so male. So much comes from our heads, work ethic, and theory. The ordained leaders speak from one perspective. The male leaders of your Jewish faith community were astounded and challenged by the spontaneous, loving, and generous response of the woman who anointed you with oil and tears. Help us to listen, to honor and cherish the life- giving wisdom and generous service of the women in your Church. As our Moms stretched our hearts, may the holy women of our lives stretch and enhance us and the spirit of your Church, that we may be living vehicles of your great forgiveness, spontaneous love, and uncompromising justice. Help us to know that responding to you is more of the heart than the head. Protect and bless all women and men who serve and anoint your Body, the Church, today. May they inspire us by their life and words.
