Opening Prayer

God, sometimes I simply wish that You would bring peace and harmony, and make life simple and easy! That is all I want of religion and You, sometimes! But like Jeremiah and Jesus, we get misunderstood and rash judged when we listen too carefully to You and take You seriously. I want Your fire to warm the world, light the darkness of night, and toast our hearts. Yet Your fire does cause discord – You uproot destructive values and challenge the established order. You cause conflict and division because You are piercing to the human soul and giving life to the divine image and freeing Spirit Who is Your uplifting and enlightening presence among us. I’m sorry for the demeaning division and destruction judgments I’ve made which shatter the unity of Your family. May Your passion purify us as You refine the best in us!
