Opening Prayer

God of history, the final destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple was so devastating. We have experienced the destruction of ancient hopes and childlike dreams. The sacred place of security and trust in You seems lost at those times. Even as we live in exile from our hearts and dreams, remind us that You are still our God and involved in our history. Let not our selfish deeds and unjust values destroy or undermine Your city and reign here on earth. InSpirit us to be rooted in the presence and values of Jesus among us. Make of us people, not of empty words, but of just actions. Help us to build Your city and the Temple of Your presence, not on the sand of selfish dreams, but on the power of Your Word present and transforming us. Speak to our disillusionment, cynicism and duplicity, Lord Jesus. Transform us!
