Opening Prayer

Jesus, do you think that Your Mom and family were upset that You did not go out to greet them? They were concerned about You and what they had heard about You. Did You put them off by stating that those who do the will of God are brother, sister and mother? It seemed like a distancing and harsh statement, Lord! But help us hear You. It is not our genetic religion which we inherited from our parents that saves us – but rather our personal involvement with and commitment to You and the values of Your reign. Help us not take the easy way out, but rather to hear the challenge of Your good news. Empower us to make whatever sacrifices are necessary in our attitudes and behaviors to be people of Your covenant. We want to offer You the best. We want to be the best. In You, we can do both, and be Your brother and sister and mother!
