Opening Prayer

You are our hope, Jesus! You must both smile and grimace when you see followers fighting among themselves as they did with Paul in Corinth. Our petty power struggles must frustrate. Do you wonder if we ever really listen to you? You told Paul not to be afraid. Speak your calming word again to us. Amid the confusing birthing process of your reign, we feel frightened and insecure. We strike out against each other. We live in a world of immediate gratification, Lord Jesus. Your reign and its promised fullness and joy seem so far away and unattainable at times. I’m sorry for my lack of hope in your life-giving presence during this birthing process. Continue to pour forth your Spirit of hope within and among us. We need you, Lord! I need you, Jesus!
