Opening Prayer

Good and gentle Jesus, Your Sermon on the Mount must have sounded so freeing, refreshing and uplifting to the poor, downtrodden, sorrowing, outcast, forgotten and fragile of your world. It still sings with hope today. You are the God who uplifts us! Rooted in You, there is no desert that can parch the human heart. You are the life-giving water which allows us to blossom. You are the hand of God, reaching from eternity, calling us to a fuller life, here and hereafter. Please don’t let our history of dysfunction and misjudgment cripple our ability to respond to you and share the message of your freeing and uplifting love with all people we meet, especially the pained and poor, the forgotten, forsaken and fragile. Pour forth Your blessedness in us!
