Opening Prayer

As You set up the festivals, pilgrimages, feasts and rituals, You must love to have Your people gather and celebrate the seasons of Your love affair with us. You have us do Sabbath rest, sharing and sacrifice. Help us to appreciate and empower our Eucharistic assemblies to be true celebrations and dynamic pilgrimages of faith. Save us from boring rituals. Sometimes our repetition makes them too familiar so they lose their impact on us. Save us from contempt born of familiarity, which Jesus experienced from his neighbor and childhood friends in Nazareth. Keep us open to the people You and our choice have brought into our lives. InSpirit us to reverence their specialness, to hear You and see Your face in them. Help us celebrate Your loving presence in the rituals, feasts, people and gatherings of our faith and life experience.
