Opening Prayer

Awesome God of Broad Shoulders, there really is no one like you.  You are beyond human imagination and comparison in the mysterious, powerful, strange and wonderful ways You deal with us.  You are awesome and frightening in the width of your creative power.  You are inspiring and comforting in the depth of Your compassion and embrace of us.  You make our hearts soar with hope.  Today, lift up people of heavy hearts who are burdened in any way.  Thank You for Your strong, shepherding shoulders.  I love to sit on Your shoulders, like a kid enjoying Your world.  It is such a relief and comfort to know that You are God and You carry the whole world.  Sometimes, I’ve tried to carry the whole world myself – and it is too heavy for me.  I’m glad and relieved that You are God and that Your yoke is a comforting embrace of love and uplifting refreshment.

St. Lucy lost her eyes because she would not deny the fiery and transforming vision of Your love.  Please let Your light shine in the messy darkness of our confusion!
