Opening Prayer

God, You are self-emptying in your love. Jesus came as Servant and humbly poured himself out for us. Why do we get so caught up and pre-occupied with what we do and how important we are! Sometimes I feel like a hypocrite thinking of myself as a follower of Jesus. I get so proud and arrogant about my hard work and earnest intentions. I think I should get special treatment, instead of simply humbly and gratefully acknowledging that I have been privileged to follow you and serve your people. Yes, I want to sit at the table with you, and understand that whether I am male or female, young or old, you expect proper, disciplined and respectful behavior from your servants and friends – those whom you invite to the table. Thank you for purifying us of our sinfulness so that we can belong with you!
