Opening Prayer

Jesus, it is embarrassing and humbling that You are washing my feet. You never cease to amaze and teach me. With You, we remember the Passover and the blood of the lamb as God calls us from bondage to freedom. As we remember, it all becomes so real in our lives. You are our lamb, whose blood frees us from the angel of death. You are our food for the Passover journey to freedom. You transform unleavened bread and messianic wine into signs of Your faithful presence.

You transform us into servants of God’s reign and the justice of Your sisters and brothers, rather than being power mongers wrestling for first place. Teach us to wash our feet, Lord Jesus. We don’t like the smell of it. The humility runs against the grain. But we want to follow You, Teacher, Lord and Passover Lamb. We are passing over. Why the nostalgia and sadness even as we celebrate?
