Opening Prayer

Holy God, Your Son Jesus took his disciples to the familiar mount of Tabor, a place he knew from his childhood. They got away to reflect on what was happening at a critical time when people were no longer responding to Jesus’ message. Your glory broke through in Him. His Divine Sonship was made manifest in Him. In the Transfiguration, You gave His disciples courage for the painful road. Sometimes we seem lost in familiar ground and wonder what is going on, Lord. We question where You are and why You are not acting as we expected. The familiarity of people and experiences in our lives deadens our sensitivity to see Your glory and presence in them. Give us eyes of faith, to look for You and see the glory and presence of Jesus in the dark, painful confusing experiences of our lives. Transfigure us in faith, Lord. Let Your Spirit shine and live in us.
