“For me, prayer is a burst from my heart, it is a simple glance thrown toward heaven, a cry of thanksgiving and love in times of trials as well as in times of joy.” –St. Therese, Story of a Soul
St. Therese wrote this in her Story of a Soul, in fact, this quote is how the Catholic Church defines prayer in the Catechism. (CCC 2558)
St. Therese understood the simplicity of prayer - it did not need to be eloquent or well thought out. She knew it was imperative that her prayers were simplistic and exactly what was written on her heart. This simplicity creates a true and authentic connection with our Lord.
This simplicity creates a child-like faith in our hearts. Our dear Little Flower believed that when you pray like a child talking to his or her father is when you are authentically connecting with God.
