Time with Therese: Beneath your veil

August 15, 2016 06:00 AM

“O sweetest Star of Heaven! O virgin Spotless, blest, shining with Jesus’ light, guiding to Him my way! Mother! Beneath your veil let my tired spirit rest, for this passing day.” –St. Therese, My Song for Today

This quote is from one of  St. Therese’s most beloved poems, “My Song for Today.” She wrote this poem on June 1, 1894, the feast of the Sacred Heart. Therese composed it based off of a conversation she had with her sister, Marie, about the brevity of life.

As we know, St. Therese had a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary;  she cured her of her childhood sickness and said the rosary.  It is through Mary that she found the comfort of a mother. We too must seek the motherly love of Mary. Through honoring Mary, the Mother of God,  we come to know Jesus in a more intimate way
